Anybody else get there hands on this?

It's pretty good...I especially like the radio versions of "Radio" and "In It For The Money" (don't get me wrong, the original album "City" still rocks).

Just seeing if others had thoughts about it or not.

so, i'm in paris on business. and i don't read french. i'm reading the metro newspaper, i see something about DJing and "Client" and assume its a DJ set with client as part of what the DJ spins. Wrong.

i arrive at this club, to a HUGE line, and wait and wait. i got to see client. live, in paris. i talk to both girls. i mention my friend claus. "Oh yeah, I've not seen Claus in a little bit." Ahahahaha. <3

love you claus,

The Radio remix, dub mix of Depeche Mode's Photographic, and few other things I've stumbled across are brilliant! Exactly the kind of poppy electro beats I get sweaty over.

Anyone know anything about Rex?

Hey I just found this tribe and was bummed to see it hasn't been very active recently.

Client's my fave new band of the last couple of years easily; they put most of the 2000s electrorevival schtuff to shame. Friends are sick of hearing me talk about them; my bf's sick of hearing me play them.

I know there's been no releases since Pornography but, well, they still get my heart thumping. So I just had to post hello.... Trav

Well after listening to only 6 tracks of Client so far my favourite track has been "Diary of an 18 year old boy", really good stuff.
As soon as I started playing them though they instantly reminded me of "Robots In Disguise"(an english 2 girl group), in fact they're incredibly similar to them, Claus and anyone else is welcome to get them from me via Soulseek or MSN and you'll notice for yourselves.

I used to have a link to their website but I've lost it...

Soho Dolls told me they are touring with Client all across England in September.

Soho Dolls will be releasing their first single in November now, not in September as was the initial plan.

Client's new album, cities, still looks to be coming out September and there seems there might also be a special edition CD (or DVD?) with videos out sometime later if the girls have their way with the record company.

(a brilliant chance for you to see two great acts waxaholica!)

Andy Fletcher's toasthawaii's first signing. Girl duo Client are about as contradictory as it gets, combining abrasive electro and upfront attitude with addictive melodies and girly naivety. Yet somehow it all works, and their debut album is going to soundtrack your life. A gorgeous mix of sleaze, heartbreak, hedonism and classic song-writing, it's the electro-pop record that many lesser bands have promised but only Client have delivered. They've got it, and you're going to love them.

Music wants to be free

Fellow client fans, elctroheads and music lovers...

Not being entirely sober and about to go out once again to brave the world of london nightlife I feel like presenting to you a question which I have been pondering about lately.

Sharing of music on the Internet...

I am a musical gourmand. Someone who enjoys music in great quantities. At the same time I love the new, original and inventive. I never listen to radio because it bores me to death. Likewise I tire quickly of repeated listening to the same CD. I feed on the fresh and new. Sure I'll go back and listen to depeche mode and other old stuff but my musical hunger requires fresh blood. Preferably every week.

So, my interest in music was retarded and dying before the great revolution. Not only were CDs seriously overpriced but finding something new not being promoted by the music industry (read: mtv) was next to impossible. Only this week I went out to buy Ice Skating from Ultrafox, and although I could order it online, it was in none of the "great" "music" shops of London. If you are a musical freak like me then you are either out of luck or you need to shell out a hellish amount.

To the rescue, Internet sharing. Without it I would never have discovered Client and in turn I would never have known about the Soho Dolls, Ultrafox, Robots in Disguise, Mount Sims, Trash Palace, etc. or even the club I am going to tonight (Return to New York).

So, finally, my question. How can we freely share and download music from new and wonderful bands, sampling a bit here and there without restraint, while still rewarding the artist for his or her effort? I try to buy music from small bands that I've come to like. My attendance at their gigs might add to their coffers and I try to "spread the word" about new and interesting bands. Still I don't like paying for overpriced CDs where only a fraction goes to the artist and you get copy protection that makes it useless for mp3 fanatics like me (ok the copy protection is pretty useless but it still annoys). Besides why buy the friggin CD when I listen to my music in mp3 format anyway.

I think the key must have something to do with drastically lowering the price of music, cutting out the middlemen and for music to be easily and immediately available on the net. That leaves out the question how you can freely explore new music. Sure draconic measures can be put in place to restrict how many times you can listen to a track, but that can easily be broken by someone who knows how and has more holes than a swiss cheese.

Client is doing a pretty good job. They are making videos and some songs freely available for download and selling eps quite cheaply on their site. If you haven't seen their videos then go and watch them now! Both realplayer and windows formats for people with anything from high to low bandwidth.

So how can an unknown, independent (and poor) band spread its music (apart from gigs) and still have anything left worth selling? I don't expect any simple answers (hell I'll be surprised if I get any replies at all!), but I just felt like sharing these thoughts that I'm sure some of you might share.

"Secret Gig"

Well I'm just back from Client's "secret" gig at infinity. It is 3.30 and I really need to get some sleep. So quickly. Client only played a couple of new songs but it was a fun performance. I tried to take some photos with my new centon camera... just wish I had brought more film.

I wont try to quote Maya from the Soho Dolls but she was saying something along the lines of Client being a female version of Kraftwerk. I don't know how true that is but I like the idea. Seeing them on stage... maybe... opinions?

Speaking of Soho Dolls they started off the evening. Maya was good on stage like last time, but working a somewhat tougher crowd than at the nothing hill arts club. I spent my entire black/white film on them, leaving the colour roll for Client.

A band called the bandits, one male vocal and one acoustic guitar, were also there. British indi music I suppose. With a great voice and strong performance they got a great response from the audience (and from Claudia from Ultrafox).

All in all, a very good night out.
Being Boiled After Action Report

Being Boiled was absolutely wicked last night and probably the best.

Kick ass DJ set from Client. They are bringing it to the Sonar festival in Barcelona next week. Heavily remixed bowie and other hard to recognize goodies. Lucky Barcelona.

The live bands were fantastic! The Ultrafox duo from Munich, cute in their matching black skirt uniforms, created a sound picture of lovely, soft vocals in english and german. With live drums by Sneaker Pimps' David Westlake. Their album is out 28 June and I'll get a copy.

The highlight of the night though was doubtlessly the playful, sexy and supercharged Soho Dolls. Three girls and a lad on stage. "Come on boys, feel my noise" shouts Maya with her lush voice, long hair and lovely face all used to full effect in a great performance. A natural on stage with great stuff like Feel My Noise, Prince Harry, Strippa and Shut; "shut your pretty mouth, come sit on the couch, make love to me". Maya told me they have been signed and we can expect their first release in September. Can't wait, literally, so I expect to go see them again next week at the rhythm factory. The only downside is that it's on the same night as Client perform at the Metro!

As you can probably tell I was quite taken with the Soho Dolls. When they left stage it filled my heart with joy to see the dance floor filled with beautiful electroheads. Swirling girls and spasmic robotic guys in a wonderful mix of long dresses, black skirts and tight jeans to a thumping kraftwerk mix.

Great job to Client for putting together such a top night.

Get some short mp3 samples of the Soho Dolls at www.thesohodolls.com and of ultrafox from www.ultrafox.de

Ok, just thought I'd post the newsletter for Being Boiled the comming Tuesday for anyone curious.

CLIENT’s feast of Old school and new pure electro is back in its usual slot after an all exhausting if much fun tour with Mick Jones of the Clash. This month’s line up is as full and exciting as ever. DJs on the night are Tom Magic Feet of iDJ magazine, the one and only Andy Fletcher of Depeche Mode fame and of course your hosts CLIENT.

Two very exciting young bands line up this month, first off it’s the Soho Dolls a trio of girls bound to make an impact with their super lush electro sound, they’re followed by a very early and exciting glimpse of the The Sneaker Pimps side project Ultrafox…you heard it here first!
